The kickoff of the big 14-man tournament to crown a new World Heavyweight Champion after the vacation of the belt. DiBiase is his typical self in this match, selling everything with gusto, especially a very good atomic drop that sends him flipping over the top and to the outside by his seconds, Virgil and Andre the Giant.
The men keep up a commendable pace. Duggan sets up in his three-point-stance, but Andre grabs his leg from outside of the ring. DiBiase takes advantage with a knee to the kidneys simultaneous with a shot from Andre, and then a fist drop for the three for DiBiase to move to the quarterfinals.
Considering the time constraints of the card and the pressure placed on the match as the kickoff of the World Championship tournament, it mostly delivers what is asked of it.
