The first ever free WrestleMania match was the finals of the Tag Team Title Tournament. WrestleMania had had several dark matches for those in attendance, but WWE capitalized on this by putting this year’s match on their Free For All, a pre-show that aired on the pay-per-view channels before the event. Obviously, WWE has expanded on this strategy by also airing the current pre-show across the internet to drive purchases of the show and subscriptions to the network in the moments leading up to major events.
In this inaugural bout, The Godwinns play the role of the big hoss faces. After some back and forth, the Bodydonnas gain control over Henry. As Henry tags in Phineas for the big hot tag, the wild man of the group (the future Mideon) took out both Bodydonnas momentarily until Sunny jumped on the apron and flashed her ass (she had just won the slammy for Best Buns the night prior) at poor P.I.G., and the big lug couldn’t ignore his infatuation. A school boy gets three and the Bodydonnas become the world tag team champions.
Not a terrible opener with some personality and plenty of heat.
