313. Billy Jack Haynes vs. Hercules (w/ Bobby The Brain Heenan)

Timeline:
WrestleMania III
March 29, 1987
Pontiac Silverdome
Pontiac, MI

This is the Full Nelson Challenge—which means literally nothing. Hercules appears to be the literal mythical Hercules in kayfabe if his pre-match interview is to be believed. Billy Jack Haynes is incredibly proud to be from Oregon, covered from head to toe in OR themed garb.

As this match starts, at one point, Jesse Ventura says “Billy Jack’s exposing that backside to Hercules. Hercules looking to do a little more punishment. Soften him up. You got to do that before you put on a hold like the full nelson.” But this is actually not pornography.

The match is as one would expect: methodical, slow, plodding. No one has ever talked about locking fingers as much as Gorilla Monsoon and Jesse Ventura in this match in reference to each man’s full nelson. Herc gets it on once, but doesn’t have his aforementioned fingers locked, of course. When Haynes finally gets his full nelson locked on, they tumble through the ropes, where he idiotically puts it back on and both men get counted out. Heenan tries to break the hold, Haynes chases him, and Hercules ends up bloodying BJ with his chain.

Haynes famously vomits during this match, echoing the sentiments of everyone that had to sit through this.
